Uniting for Our Ocean After the Midterm Elections

Published by Ocean Conservancy

As the U.S. emerges from a polarizing and divisive midterm election, Ocean Conservancy looks forward to continuing our work on important issues, on behalf of our members and the millions of people who depend on a healthy ocean.

We remain committed to three principles:

  • Conservation
  • Collaboration
  • Unity

We work on a bipartisan basis, supporting science-based solutions on behalf of our ocean and the people who depend on it. That’s how we’ve continued to get things done and make meaningful progress over the past 46 years.

It’s time to roll up our sleeves and work together for the future of our ocean.

We will always seek to partner with Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle on behalf of our ocean and the people that depend on it.

In the 115th Congress, our ocean saw many important and hard-fought battles over environmental policy, as well as an occasional bright spot of ocean-friendly legislative accomplishment, such as passage of the SOS Act and the continuation of steady funding for NOAA. As this congress enters the final weeks of its lame-duck session, we must remain vigilant to protect current conservation laws until the congress adjourns. We must also push this congress to immediately address the harmful algal blooms that have plagued our coasts.

It’s time to unite for our ocean.

It’s easy to get caught up in the divisiveness of today’s political climate, but we have more in common than we realize. Each and every one of us relies on our ocean—and protecting it is a mission that unites all of us from coast to coast, Alaska to Hawaii.
