U.S. Business of Chemistry Marks Manufacturing Day 2020
Are you ready for Manufacturing Day? America’s chemical manufacturers are. But we’re always ready. That’s why and how the U.S. Business of Chemistry makes possible over 96% of all manufactured goods. Sure, we provide 544,000 skilled, high-paying jobs; help generate an additional 4.4 million American jobs; invested more than $10 billion in research and development in 2019; and, support over 25% of U.S. GDP.
But you know what else? We also pride ourselves on being the producers of some of world’s most critical life-saving products. #MFGDay20 is the perfect day to remember that, from day one, the U.S. Business of Chemistry stepped up to the plate and has been at the forefront of the world’s fight against COVID-19.
America’s chemical manufactures never shut down. We never stopped. Why? Because we supply many of the products that are vital to the frontline fight against coronavirus. And we’re recognized by DHS as “essential critical infrastructure.” So, we’ve continued to operate, perform and provide solutions to the world.
Chemicals are critical inputs into personal protective equipment like masks and face shields; cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting solutions; and all types of medical equipment and supplies.
Chemistry is 75% of the value of cleaning products, biocides, and disinfectants and represents more than 25% of the value of medical supplies and equipment inputs.
When the world shut down America’s chemical manufacturers stepped up. We:
- Ramped up production of vital, life-saving products
- Retooled manufacturing lines to produce entirely new, essential products
- Supported employees and communities with volunteerism and philanthropy
- Donated critical PPE to local medical centers and loaned their best and brightest to research centers and universities – in fact ACC estimates that our member companies have made more than $100 million in monetary and in-kind donations to support Covid-19 relief efforts.
Are you ready for #MFGDay20. We are!
