CPI Releases Complimentary Canadian Version of Online Health & Safety Training Program for Spray Polyurethane Foam Users

The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) today
released a Canadian version of its online chemical health and safety training
program designed to provide information regarding safe use, handling and
disposal of high-pressure spray polyurethane foam (SPF). The training is
available at no charge in both English and French languages.

The Canadian SPF Chemical Health and Safety Training program is similar to the U.S. version that was launched in 2011, but has been updated for the Canadian market and Canadian regulations. While this information is intended for SPF applicators, it may also be of interest to and relevant for supervisors, contractors and business owners working with SPF insulation and roofing directly or indirectly.

“CPI first launched the free, online SPF Chemical Health and
Safety Training program in response to SPF’s growing popularity for use in
insulation and roofing,” said Lee Salamone, Senior Director, CPI. “With over
28,000 SPF professionals having completed the original program, we believe it’s
important to provide safety information customized for the Canadian market.”

The online training can be found at www.spraypolyurethane.org and takes approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete. The training has 12 units, including hazard information on SPF ingredients, safety practices, handling and disposal, and work site safety controls. Following the training, users who successfully pass a test receive a “Recognition of Completion” certificate and wallet-sized card, both of which are valid for two years. The “Recognition of Completion” is useful for verifying that a spray foam applicator has successfully completed the course. Registration and more information on the online Canadian SPF Chemical Health and Safety Training program can be found here.  For more information on SPF health and safety — including guidance documents, training videos, and regulatory compliance tools — visit www.spraypolyurethane.org.
