ACC Marks Earth Day 2020
On this Earth Day, the U.S. business of
chemistry is more committed than ever to protecting our planet. Did you know
that efforts to preserve the environment—our air, water, land and climate—are
made possible in large part thanks to the innovative
products of chemistry?
America’s chemical makers create technologies that empower Americans and American businesses to improve energy efficiency while making our nation’s energy supplies go further than ever. In fact, nearly every energy-saving technology depends on innovations in chemistry.
Chemistry
also helps keep the environment clean. And through Responsible Care® ACC members report and track their commitments
to conserving
and protecting our natural resources, using materials efficiently and wisely, and reducing
waste.
This year, marking the 50th
anniversary of Earth Day, ACC is reaffirming its
commitments supporting protection of the environment, conserving materials
and resources, reducing waste through reuse and recycling, and decreasing
greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants in the manufacture and distribution of
products.
These
commitments were set out in part in the industry-wide Sustainability
Principles that
ACC announced in 2018, alongside plans for addressing clean water, energy needs
and global standards of living.
When it comes to plastics, ACC is deeply committed to ending waste in the environment, and has set goals to make all plastic packaging recyclable in the United States by 2030, and to reuse, recycle or recover all plastic packaging by 2040.
