CPI’s 2019 Polyurethanes Technical Conference a Success

Members of the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI)
left their mark in Orlando, Florida, with a successful 62nd annual Polyurethanes
Technical Conference
. Over 800 polyurethane
professionals spent three days demonstrating the impact polyurethanes are
making today, and how the industry is promoting sustainability for the future.

This year’s opening session kicked the conference into high
gear, featuring keynote
speaker
Dr. Deborah Mielewski, Senior Technical Leader of Sustainable
Materials and Advanced Materials at Ford Motor Company. Her presentation
discussed polyurethane in the automotive industry and how it contributes to
innovation and the circular economy.

CPI was proud to host 62 table top exhibits and hold 15
technical sessions with 74 technical presentations and 16 posters, over an
incredible few days. Several papers and posters were presented during each
technical session on various topics, including many different types of
polyurethane applications. Judges selected 12 papers and 4 posters as the best
of the conference – the full list of winners can be found here.

CPI’s Professional
Development Program
, which ran concurrently with the conference, offered
educational courses to polyurethane industry veterans and newcomers. Marking
its 16th year, attendees got the chance to learn about
polyurethane’s properties, chemistry, applications, and market from industry experts.
A new
course
this year outlined the background of polyurethane composites.  Thank you to all of our PDP instructors!

The conference wrapped up on Wednesday, Oct. 9, with the
closing session where the Distinguished Leadership Awards were presented to
recognize individuals providing outstanding leadership and advancing the goals
of CPI and the polyurethane industry. This year’s recipients
were Juan Carlos Medina of Dow and Richard (Dick) Werner of Cannon. We also announced
Carbon as the winner of the 2019 Polyurethane Innovation Award for its
partnership with Riddell on the SpeedFlex Precision Diamond football helmet.
Congratulations to all of our award winners!

CPI thanks everyone for another great conference this year.
We look forward to seeing you again at next year’s conference on October 5-7,
2020, in San Antonio, Texas.

With hundreds and hundreds of industry professionals in attendance, the Polyurethanes Technical Conference continues to be the premier polyurethanes event in North America!
